So this is the second round of things that have influenced my vision of what I want my dwelling to become. I’ve got the overall vision pretty much down, but every once in awhile I see things in photographs, TV shows or magazines that makes me stop and shuffle around my ideas a bit into a different sort of juxtaposition.
Lately I’ve been thinking about dining room living and how to make what I see in my head a reality. I rent now, but I still think there’s quite a bit you can do without having to physically change a whole lot. I love the reclaimed wood look for a dining room table. It’s got character and unlike those terrible oak dining room antiques that people fill their homes with, if you spill some shit on the table, no big deal. It adds to the character and comfort of the table. I could give a shit about how green my dining set is, so the whole using reclaimed lumber thing doesn’t matter much to me. Someone else can drive a Toyota Prius. The second photos color palette is very appealing to me, even if that 4 foot of tile is quite nauseating. I also like the use of plants in both photos.
Again the color palette in this photo is very appealing to me. The coffee table, chair and nightstand however should be burned in a giant fire with Glenn Beck books used as the kindling. I do however like the stadium chairs. I think they’re a very cool touch to add seating and style, however I find that they’re also better suited in the dreaded “Man Caves” than the living/bedroom of a studio apartment.
All these lights are not something anyone would want in their home, but turn em upside down in a restaurant and bam! They look cool as shit and are a good way to add a casual twist to a dining experience. Again another thing I like but couldn’t see a practical purpose in my life for it.
I’ve been reading up and researching different shelving ideas for our living room. I think I’m gonna build a series of “Book” shelves that will fill our giant barren living room. One day I’ll get around to it, until then I just keep collecting photos of things I like and things I could do without. I like both pictures, however the 2nd one features Ikea’s Lack shelving system I believe and I fucking hate Ikea shit. Everyone has it, it’s cheap as fuck, falls apart when it’s hit with water or a breeze and as exciting as your grandfathers morning bowel movement. I like the small things that Ikea has to offer in terms of design, but I think I’m pretty much past the point of wanting my house to be all chintzy Ikea crap. Now what to do with all these Billy book cases I have?!
The top two are both sets from Gossip Girl and the bottom is some dudes basement, when I saw these pictures I thought “Man if there was a bar that smashed these styles together and served good food, I’d live there!” Unfortunately the majority of people that run bars are douches and can’t figure out that the more time you put into making your spot nice, the better clientele you’ll bring in, the more ladies will want to come there and the less financial difficulties you’d have. Maybe when we buy a house I can find something with a basement that I can turn into my own bar and smush these all together into my own little AA getaway.
This is more than likely one of the next projects I’ll be looking into doing. Not because I’m a fan of giant boards full of things that have happened in my life, but because my fiancee is a sort of hoarder of memories. So rather than be all disgruntled and argumentative about the random shit she wants to show off proudly, I’ve been trying to think up ways to incorporate her massive collection of paper memories into the design of our living space. So I’m gonna put these two boards together and hopefully make something decent.
